The Baker Street Irregulars - Album Sampler |

The record does not necessarily display awesome talent or great variety but all five songs are cheerful, high-spirited and easy to find yourself whistling along to, although despite the youthful, high-pitched lead vocal, there is a constant, dark yet humorous tone running throughout the record. Highlights of the record include Shithole Alumni which gives the EP a tuneful jump start as it describes the laziness of modern student life. I Love Lisa has been around a long time and was available on the internet since before the Battle Of The Bands, the song has a slightly sinister undertone as the lyrics ask why ‘Lisa’ still loves a man who dislikes all her habits and gives up little for her, all emphasised by the extremely deep bass and contrast between doubling up the high and low pitched vocal tracks. The fact that the Baker’s try not too take music too seriously comes across strongly with intentional recording mistakes, whistling solos and a double speed bonus track, but none of this takes away from the fact they seem to have the knack of producing very listenable pop songs. Let’s see what the album brings. Written by Dan Jeoffroy
