The Mill - Preston's premier music venue

The Clones clear up after a complete Shambles -
The Mill - Sunday 9 May

Billy Clone - 'We're better than a load of bagheads anyway'Preston band The Clones last night stole the show from two 'out of town' bands at The Mill as Pete Doherty’s side-project ‘Babyshambles’, who were due to headline the night, failed to show up.

The Clones were onstage first and more than made up for Pete’s absence, putting on a 25-minute display of raw yet intricate rock and roll for the 200 strong crowd. The Clones can be compared favourably to The Yardbirds, The Clash, The Libertines and Kings Of Leon, and are seemingly in the midst of taking Preston by storm as their live performance continues to go from strength to strength.

Moonwalk Shuffle

The set included the bouncy, punk-ridden, cowbell driven Roll Your Eyes as well as titles such as These Girls Never Look Like The Ones In The Magazines, Hey La and finishing with the blues-rock fuelled epic Rockafella, during which frontman Billy Clone demonstrated his trademark moonwalk shuffle on more than one occasion.

The set ended in a muddle of flying mic-stands and rolling drums as well as drummer Dan cracking his head open jumping off the drum kit.

Babyshambles will eventually be gracing The Mill with their presence on Monday 17th May – they wouldn’t do too badly to let The Clones support again.
