From the moment you play this four track EP you cannot help but draw mainstream comparisons with The Cooper Temple Clause or experimental Radiohead. However, after getting to know Trust the Green Man, it becomes evident that Sound Noir have captured their own sound and consequently deliver a mesmerising yet soothing attack on musical normality and the mendacity and hypocrisy of the modern world.

Solemnly tuneful

The doubled vocal track from start to finish sounds almost prayer-like and the unsuspecting listener is captivated. Give or Take (A Little War) is a solemnly tuneful query of the reasons behind the mass war protest in London last year, referring to the ‘friends lined up in London Hyde Park/ with their green, green land/ you’re all losers.’

I Am A King lays back on a lazy bass-line, with the guitars sounding like a spaced out medieval English folk song. Whereas swollen pride bites back at 'The Man' and speaks out against the unquestionned control of the masses.

Sound Noir clearly have a great deal to say and, although their music is far from light-hearted, if it remains as pleasant to listen to as this, it might just get heard.
