27Sunday goes with a big bang

A large number of local musical acts came together on Sunday (July 10) as Star 27 successfully organised one of the biggest gigs ever witnessed in the city.

27 different acts in total, including DJ's, comedians, bands and solo artists contributed to the days proceedings, each performing 20 minute sets from 2pm until closing.

The popularity of the event fluctuated throughout the day, with some bands suffering more modest crowds than others. However, at times The Mitre was full to bursting, as local gig-goers spilled out into the car park.

Acts included The Rhythm Method, Aitchy, Garland Green, The Superkings, DJ Bik, Jelly's Last Jam and, of course, Star 27. The latter enjoying probably the biggest crowd of the evening leaving the main bar so busy that many had to listen from outside.

Star 27 gigs are usually something out of the ordinary, and their latest madcap antics were in or to help fund a large UK tour next month, organised by the band themselves. Details on venues and cities will follow as they are confirmed.
