Tin Gods pull through as 'Battle of the Bands' hots up

Tin Gods live at The MillThe first round of The Mill's Battle of the Bands came to a close last night, with competition veterans, The Tin Gods, staking their claim on the final place available for the quarter-finals
later this month.

Last year's fourth place entry are back with a vengence, fielding a few new members and brushing off competition from Colne band, Sunken Monkey, and The Aggrophobes.

Third on the bill, The Tin Gods arrived in style and appeared confident of victory from the start, with lead singer Steve Annand stating:

"Thanks to Sunken Monkey and the Aggrophobes for supporting us tonight, we're the Tin Gods, enjoy the show."

Professional and Uplifting

Despite looking every bit like a bunch of complete misfits, from Art teacher bassist Paul Annand, to lead guitarist Lee Fury's 'Gareth Marenghi meets Busted' appearance, the sound produced by the Tin Gods is tight, professional and uplifting. Managing to take influences from the Manic Street Preachers to Muse and mould them into a sound of their own.

Tonight however, it is not only their musical talent that gives them the edge over second placed Sunken Monkey. Their stage presence and wildcard antics help sway any undecided votes in the building. Starting by covering 'Happy Birthday' for the benefit of the lead singer, the band went on to showcase their own material before Steve Annand joined the crowd offstage to dance to the final number.

Strong fan-base

Sunken Monkey themselves were by no means a pushover, bringing with them a strong fan base and their simple yet fun reproduction of the American-Punk genre, waiting until their final track to prove their creativity with a unique Offspring meets Iron Maiden number Public Hair.

Tin Gods join thirteen other bands in the quarter finals, to be fought on the weekends of the 16th and 23rd April. Other names expected to go far include The Clones, The Baker Street Irregulars, Treehouse 3 and The Jackpot Golden Boys.
