Treehouse 3 and Asylum proceed to semi-finals

Treehouse 3 victorious in quarter finalsTreehouse 3 and Asylum both proceeded to the semi-finals of the Lancashire Evening Post sponsored Battle of the Bands, following rousing performances in last night’s quarter-finals.

Treehouse 3 scored a resounding 72 points out of 90, Asylum coming a close second place with 65 points as judges marked critically, judging on categories including Musicianship, set content, and performance. Judge Russ explained on Prestone.co.uk:
“Treehouse 3 had good tunes, solid meodies and were hypnotic, but they let the feedback problems affect them too much, which is disappointing for a band with so much experience.”

“Asylum are good musicians and gave a great performance. The lyric sounded cliched in places but full marks for the look, the banner and the bubble machine.”

Hurried

Seamus Mcloughlin has feedback problemsTreehouse 3 always guarantee a tight performance and last night was no exception as they performed an uplifting set with singer Seamus using an acoustic guitar pretty much throughout. Third song of the set, Follow Me Down, was an immediate crowd-pleaser and old favourite Water taunted the judges by going on for almost ten minutes despite the having been hurried into their last song. Band drummer, Mark Whiteside today told Listen Up:
“I really cannot believe we won, the sound was really poor and we just didn’t have it on the night. Hopefully we’ll get it better next time, we’re intending to change the whole set.”

Asylum give a typically Goth Rock performanceAsylum’s heavy yet commercial ‘Gothic Rock’ sound did them no harm and they put on a cheesy yet fantastic show, working the crowd and demonstrating passion, talent and enjoyment throughout their set.

Intricacy

Other local bands Neocoma and Plan B bowed out gracefully in fourth and fifth place respectively. Neocoma’s heavy ‘grunge-metal’ sound failed to ignite the crowd or convince the judges, lacking both the emotion and intricacy to be serious contenders.

Plan B, on the other hand, were not helped by their easily recognisable, and long worn out, Britpop sound. However, they did show signs of promise, and are too talented to collapse into their chosen genre.

Treehouse 3 and Asylum join last weeks’ winners The Baker Street Irregulars, and Synko in the semi-finals. The quarter-finals will be tied up this week and continue on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd of April.
