Sushi Pills back in the swing of things at the 12 Bar

Sushi Pills in full swingIf the Sushi Pill’s bark is anything to go by then these four lads are already on their way to the big leagues, having supported bands such as The Kills and The complete Stone Roses and in good contact with ex-Creation guru, Alan McGee.

Tonight is a little more than business as usual as drummer Ged explains:
“We’ve got some important gigs planned, but we’ve not played together much recently so we need to get some shows in and practice.”

Trickling lead-riffs

Taking the small corner stage of the 12 Bar at about half-nine, it is immediately recognisable that, if nothing else, the Sushi Pills believe in themselves. Launching into their first number of the night, they clearly have good reason to be confident.

Judging by this performance, the Sushi Pills are a dirty blues-punk band, seeSinger Joe Gleave gets into the groovemingly too good to get caught up in the new ‘Preston music scene.’ Perfect changes of tempo and heavy bass-lines, contrasted with trickling lead riffs and a singer who sounds undeniably Robert Plant-like.

Paranoiac

The main undoing of the Sushi Pills tonight is that they collapse too easily into a sound that the great blues rock bands exhausted a long time ago. Although the closing number, Electronic Break, did point towards a different, fuzzy, paranoiac direction, hopefully indicating their flexibility and pointing towards the sound on their future recordings.
