Acts on offer included Say Jansfield, formerly of Transelement, performing an acoustic set, and a musically warped Glaswegian quintet called Cayto. DJ sets came from Kib and Ze Devil, the event organisers, and showcased an interesting mix of Punk Funk, Wild Dubs, and Mutant Disco. Capable showcase Cayto arrived onstage just after ten to play to an audience that grew in size as the set progressed. Starting in a melee of out of tune bass lines and apparently random keyboard backing, the band quickly evolved into a consistent and entirely capable showcase of experimental funk-metal akin to Muse and early Radiohead. The band swapped instruments more often than students swap phone numbers and rarely stopped entirely between songs - usually keeping the music flowing in some way or another. Last nights' launch proved a success attracting a good deal of followers, however, the venue was by no means full and organisers are looking to increase popularity over the following weeks. So if you fancy something different on a Wednesday night, the next Defunkt clubnight will be taking place on November 24 and is repeated fortnightly. Entry is £2 with an NUS and £3 without.
